"I don't think he wants to prejudice us in dealing with them." Amara guessed. "Each has his good points and is responsible. I think that what it'll come down to is which one is most compatible with Pepper's own goals. She's put down some roots here. She's not moving back."
Adriana beamed broadly at her own recollections of the incident. "Lots of us would've paid to see that. I bet they had to go back and tell their bosses that the user they were seeking to breed was the one they kicked out. Too bad for them."
Suki and Pepper moved off the flight line, after Brenda. It was the start of another working day.

"One has a business to run that's on the other side, the other is working in RAF on the other side of the world." Marianne shrugged. "Though neither is giving up. Pepper will have to make the choice in the end."
John grinned. "I'm going to have to find ways to spread that word on the other side." John said. "It will do nothing but discredit them further, I wouldn't even have to tell them of their so-called leader's orientation. I doubt any would listen to that anyway."

"And at some point the loser will have to find another mate... who may or may not be aware that she was the "runner-up." Amara frowned slightly. She received her order, and promptly fell to. She'd need her energy for the day ahead. Moira was chattering with Becky again, about the week-long trip around Australia that she and her brother had taken with their father. She looked back to Daryush. Maybe they could have one last grooming session before it was time to go.
"The orientation thing is not something anyone really cares about these days." Adriana shrugged, "But his lack of judgement in his relations with a young follower should bother people."

"Being a runner-up in this day and age isn't so bad." Marianne said. "Don't you go thinking that Daryush was a virgin when he met you, he has already told you about his most significant ex." During his bank guard days in Swiss he had gotten together with a Dassault Rafale, and due to being young and stupid, neither had worn a protection, ending up with with a kid who was a Dassault Rafale, but subtle features such as the sandy color inherited from his father.
Daryush also began eating, knowing that this was the last meal he would share with Amara.
"Given how quick I was branded a rapist and exiled, I think being branded a demon of corruption who tried to lead them astray won't be that much of a problem for the leader." John stretched. He had never named him, even though he had stopped caring that much for the cult, or that most could just look up on who it was in the first place. His thinking was, that if they had 'banned' his name, John was going to return the favor.

"You have a point." Amara stifled an outward chuckle as she ate quietly with Daryush and the kids. "Each relationship has its own character and merits and they really shouldn't be compared."
"But you have effectively stopped them from getting much influence here." Adriana pointed out. "News like that will travel, and whether they speak your name or not, you'll still be living rent-free in their heads, driving them crazy." She grinned evilly. "Revenge is a dish best served cold."

"I have to agree with you." Marianne said. "I heard someone say that you can always fall in love, it's just different kinds of love with different people, none more or less than the others."
John smirked from the thought of it. "Okay, that made me feel better." He said smiling.

"Well, I can only hope that everything works out for the best here, for everyone's sake." Amara concluded hopefully. Little talk went on during the meal itself. Amara was happy enough to be sharing company with Daryush and considered it fortunate that he could be here this morning. Moira and Gavin were also quiet, mixed emotions swirling about in their heads.
Adriana glanced over to where Tarquin and Lewis were. "I wonder what those two have been up to?"

As the meal drew to close, Daryush went closer to Amara, though not in 'the mood' for more. He knew that she had to leave today, and that she had her kids for the first time today, at least in technicality. But after he had seen that he had brought tears to her eyes as 'dumping' her, he felt the need to make it up for her.
"Beats me." John shrugged. "Been busy with the lawyers and Felix, and Shawn as well. Looks like they're doing pretty well now, no hard feelings between them."

Amara nuzzled the Sukhoi lightly. "Thanks for everything." She paused momentarily to retrieve something from one of her toolkit compartments. "And this is for you."
"Apparently, the rules for courting in their breed dictate civil conduct between suitors." Adriana explained. "And the pact applies for as long as they all live."

Daryush backed slightly to give Amara some room. "What is it?" He asked as taking it with his toolkit arm.
"I can't really see how that works." John shook his head. "But then again, Buccaneers are perhaps wired a bit differently."

"I had it made... as a goodbye gift." Amara answered. When opened, it was an opal charm, suspended in a ring that incorporated several galahs in its design. The cheeky birds had made quite an impression on her while she was here, even the one notorious for unleashing a string of random swears on passerby.
"You haven't met a Jaguar, then." Adriana smirked. "Buccaneers are just different. Jaguars are f***ing nuts. But great lovers. I dated one before I met Stefan."

"Wow." Daryush said as he inspected it. He saw right away that this was in no way a jab at him hanging with the 'galah crowd', but honest admiration of the birds themselves. "And the opal just makes it perfect. I knew you got a good deal, but I didn't think it would come out that good once the stones were polished."
Then his appearance became more ashamed. "I didn't think of getting you any goodbye gift." Daryush said meekly. "It never entered my mind." He said.
"I did meet one Grumman Jag." John said. "Those are that rare that when you see one you'll get some luck. However, it doesn't need to be just good luck." He looked at the two male Buccaneers, both chattering with smiles, now about the latest on that online horror story.
"Maybe that bad luck is finally wearing off." He said then smiling. "I think it is time for me to make my own luck. Make my own decisions and be in control of my own life." He looked around some more. "It looks like everyone is either doing that, or they need to do it."

"You gave me a shoulder to lean on, and good memories." Amara answered. "Those are more precious than gold. Things wouldn't have been the same without you."
"And things can only get better from there." Adriana nodded before sipping. Her eyes flitted back to Daryush and Amara momentarily. "And that was quite a goodbye party we had last night, wasn't it?" They had opted for a beach party at Bright's Bay, with bright colored lanterns, a stereo system and lots to eat and drink. All ages had participated.

"You also gave me good memories." Daryush said. "And helped the base in more ways than you can imagine." He nuzzled her gently. "I will look forwards to meeting you again next year."
"Yes, yes it was." John nodded. "And barely any trouble as well." He smiled. "It's kinda hard to imagine that they're really leaving now. In the past three months, Amara and her kids have been a big part of the base. And now they're going home, and if Paul doesn't wander, they'll be back next year. Though I imagine that visit wont have as big impact as this one did."

"So will I." Amara smiled, "No matter how things shape up between now and then."
Moira, in the meantime, went back to Becky. "Want to go and play jawball one more time before we go?"
"Well, they've almost become like family." Adriana concurred. "And Paul's gotten a lot more polite, though we'll have to see how long that lasts. At least he saves the rudeness for celebrities on that show he's doing with Jack Doherty." Doherty was the "bad boy" of Darwin's resident DJ's, who had listened to some of Paul's podcasts that he had been making even before this time and did a few collaborations which were successful enough to land them their own morning show, with Paul linked into the radio station from the base.
