"If it escalates, they could ground all passenger flights for humans." Christine said. "And that's probably not the worst-case scenario. Have they traced where Pilar first got infected?"
"It was in Texas." Oliver answered. "Long way from home, but thought it would tell me more than I know."

Aislin cocked her front. Did she detect a note of disillusionment in Oliver's tone?
"They're working on it." Zoe said. "They're holding back flights for now until they trace the the source, and the new arrivals will be very closely looked at."

"Ugh." Christine said. "The new arrivals may start to look at this as a persecution. If Anna hadn't been moved back home, she would be the leader of the resistance."
"I guess your school's teaching you the ropes pretty well." Oliver said.
"Not only pretty well, just amazingly well." Fred said. "She's the one that saved the bitch from dying when whelping, and Jack just escaped, and she helped me getting him back, calm and collected."

"It's delicate, alright, but the ones who were born here can't take chances until they've been immunized." Zoe said. "And the sooner we get that dealt with, the better."
Aislin blushed. "You flatter me. Okie State's a great school, though. They have the best mammal program in the country."

"It may be hard on them." Christine said. "I don't know how Miles would take it, he may look and feel independent, but he needs the team."
"Maybe I aught to take the entrance exams for it." Fred said. "I've been trying to get tutored by a human, but there's too few of them to hold classes in this kind of stuff."

"Well, I could probably show you a few things when there's time." Aislin took a sip.
"Picard's not liking it much either, he's kinda concerned now." Zoe said. "And he's stuck on base all the time."

"Good luck finding a time for it." Oliver chuckled. "The Bishops always find something for us to do."
"I wish I could be there with him." Christine said. "He doesn't get around much, and it is up to Lewis to get us to meet each other while I'm stuck here."

"So I've inferred." Aislin laughed. "Probably be plenty worn out at the end of the day."
"At least he's got Serafina visiting him regularly." Zoe looked back in a southerly direction.

"There's a pressure wash near the main road." Fred said. "But you pay to use it, but it gives the nicest massage. We also have a regular wash here at the farm, and a line in the evening once most people's chores are over."
"Good for him." Christine said. "It was hard for him to get any friends from the outside that didn't have any selfish agenda for being friendly with him. Serafina - " She paused. "She's definitely not one of them."

"Yeah, they're adorable together." Zoe nodded. "She hasn't made any real moves on him, and they're just enjoying each other's company when they have the time to spend."
"I'll keep that in mind." Aislin finished her ration and took the empty can over to the recycling bin. "Well, I've got to get back to work. Nice meeting you, Oliver."

"At least his hormones have settled." Christine said. "Were he younger, and not as smart as now, he would have sabotaged it by now."
"Likewise." Oliver said and looked at Fred. "Connor wants to be relived soon of the dog-watch." He said. "Remember to offer him a can as well."
"I'll will." Fred said and headed to the kennels.

"Despite all the flirting, he's very modest at heart." Zoe smiled. "And there's nothing wrong with his character."
Aislin looked at her task list. "I have to do a cattle check on the Angus herd."

"It's pretty basic." Oliver said and put his can in the recycling bin. "Fence and sight-based health check. There may be no predators that shouldn't hurt them, but they've been known to try."
Christine laughed. "Imagine if there was something wrong with his character." She said. "The whole space mission would have had to been delayed."

"And I need to get acquainted with the dogs as well." Aislin said. If they'd been trained the way she was used to, they would hitch a ride to the worksite in her truck bed and she'd send them on their way at the pasture. Dogs were roundly discouraged from actually following or pursuing vehicles on foot, and for good reason.
"They all seem to be pretty steady, even the little kids." Zoe noted. "Very little nonsense from them. The teachers say it almost unnerved them at first."

"What do you think, nature or nurture?" Christine asked. "I mean, if it surprised the teachers, it isn't normal kid behaviour."
