An art thread, by some definition, for anything that makes it onto paper with the help of a pencil. "Freefall, Vers. 1" - my first attempt at the character, or anything resembling aircraft. Though no longer 100% satisfied, it helped in establishing a few key features that show the F-14/F-15 blend. "Freefall, Vers. 2" - a more refined, updated take on his overall profile, sans visor. The attitude persists. From the date it was drawn to today, the piece underwent many tweakings. My only regret was that I didn't center the sketch and fit his left wingtip in. "Sandra Lewis and Nate Atley" - a comparative head study, outlining the subtle differences between these two characters and their respective models. I tried to capture a somewhat greyhoundish quality to Sandra's face, having some idea of giving her a more feminine look. Nate was just the opposite. "Early Days" - as the title implies, this is a take on the days after the Lewis-Atleys distanced themselves from the military. Technically, Nate should have some registration markings (still enlisted with the USAF at the time), but at the time it was drawn, I was feeling lazy in that department. The same goes for scale, as I'm not exactly sure how small newborn aircraft would be.

Woah. Those are some nice drawings there Orca! I like the "Early Days" the most.

Great studies, Orca.
I couldn't help going "AWWWWWWWW!" at the "Early Days" sketch.

Thanks to both. Yeah, "Early Days" was funner to draw than I thought it would be. Once I settle on a theme, it may be followed by a more-recent take, "These Days", in which things aren't so blissful.

UPDATE "These Days" is still a work-in-progress. My limited grasp of inventive poses has yet to give. "Zigzag and Birdbrain" - in the meantime, I did a compartive study of my two Tiger jets. The reasoning behind their designs is that, being model brothers, while they look alike, there are subtle differences in conformation. My only gripe is that I neglected to date this piece.

"Nevaeh" - a re-coloring of an F-22 photo establishing her adult coloration and conformation. The dorsal mottling disappears in most Raptors as they mature, whereas second-gen Nevvie is the exception to the rule. And unlike others of her breed, she declines to serve in the USAF, regardless of association contracts or patriotic obligations. Being born off of the books tends to instill that mindset.
