"I seem to have that working for me lately," Delfina replied with a shrug, "Not that I don't mind."

"I know someone who would not put up with that kind of attitude," said Taranee, thinking of a familiar black Dodge Viper, "Too bad she doesn't have any interest in returning to this place."
Shale tried to calm himself by taking slow, steady breaths and focusing on his wife.

Aron figured that it was okay to spend some time training. He did not want to be a lightning rod at the moment if things turned sour.
Tyler moved slightly to indicate he was not going to hinder any of the reunion. But he still stood nearby, ready to assist if things turned sour.

"I guess you know better now then to do anything like you saw it in the movies." Simmons took up one of the butter knives. "It's a lot less like one of those fancy, choreographed duels and more like football. What you have there is a stiletto, a double-edged weapon, so it's gonna need a different approach from the KABARs Marines usually get. We should start with the basic grips first."
Bree leaned her head against Shale, her eyes narrowed as she studied "Braids" and compared the real man with the dream-image that had taunted her over the last week. For Shale's sake, she had to keep her composure, but part of her still would consider it satisfying to give him a good kick.
"Shiro Hashihawa." the man made a bit of a bow. "No doubt my daughter has already told you a lot about me."
Haruna was exercising a great deal of self-restraint to keep from glaring.

Tyler kept his face even. While this was not exactly his business, he knew he should be around. It wasn't hard to dislike Shiro, and Tyler had learned the hard way that most Japanese born and raised in Japan demanded people to "Read the Air".
"I figured that much." Aron said, holding the butter knife as well as he could. "I figured that there are some commonalities, or you knew at least if slashing or stabbing is the way to go with the stiletto."

"The main strength of the double-edge is that you can use it in a saber hold and slash from side to side." Simmons said. "Yours is configured a lot like a Fairbairn-Sykes. Of course, there are other options for holds and it'll stab more than adequately too. That design was made to drive several inches of blade beyond what its designer anticipated would be three inches of material, mainly Soviet greatcoats and leather." He then went on to show several other ways of holding the knife before starting on basic moves...
Haruna glanced over at Delfina, and opened a channel. "He expects that time alone would heal any wound. He'll have to go a lot farther than that." She turned her attention back to her father. "First, we see to the matter of Bree before we discuss anything else."
"I will require help." Shiro said bluntly. "Last time, I was able to affect the translation and preserve the woman's skills and memories by use of seeing-stones. The last one broke on me, as it was pretty much used up."
"If he hadn't been turning his boss' mob rivals into pigs and messing with Bree's mind, he might still have had some left." Haruna sent to Delfina and Tyler.

"I have the crystals, and can help stablize her." Delfina answered, "But I've never done much mindwork beyond Innerscape therapy, and nothing really invasive."
Haruna sent back, "Tyler has vastly more experience than either of us here. It'll likely take all of us to put Humpty Dumpty together again."

"She will trust you Delfina." Tyler said. "It will make it easier for her and us if you start the process. I can help you along the way. Could I get one of those crystals?"
Aron paid attention to the lessons he was being given and took all in that he was being told. He trusted Simmons to know what he was talking about.

Delfina checked what remained in her pouch, and selected one. "This one should have more than enough to do the job." She handed it to Tyler. "I can help keep her mind intact." Kathleen and Denise had taught her quite a few things over the years.
Shale, in the meantime, was starting to come to terms with the fact that Shiro was going to have to have contact with his wife again to restore her. But that didn't mean he was going to relax his vigilance for so much as a millisecond.
"Move, block, strike - that's the basic drill." Simmons said. "You don't just stand around and wait for Buddy over there to do something to you, once he makes his move. If you show that you're onto him, that might be enough to persuade him to drop any such ideas. If he's still stuck on stupid after that, you can deal with him."
Lazaro divided his attention between the goings-on outside and Simmons' impromptu "Knives 101". He had had a lot of close-quarters combat training himself.

"Alright. If everyone's ready, you can start Delfina." Tyler said. He glanced a bit at Shiro. He most likely did have the sense to somehow record what was going on, get a feel of his and Delfina's powers.

"It's time." Bree said to her mate. She swallowed hard and started to walk out towards them. Shale kept up with her, snorting the stink of Shiro out of his nostrils, but not taking his eyes off the man. Shiro smiled tightly as they approached.
"You have the right to be angry." Shiro conceded to them. "But your friends are here also, so you needn't fear me."
"Fear" isn't exactly the word, a**hole, Shale thought, but muzzled it. He'd been around users long enough to know to guard his own mind. Bree maintained a mask of calm, but her eyes seemed to strike fiery sparks.
Shiro turned to Delfina. "It might be better over on the other side of the house - fewer windows there." They moved over to an open area, a side yard with a swing set in back. He motioned to Bree. "You will have to remove your clothes."
Shale came up to shield Bree from any gawkers outside as she stripped down. Shiro took the wool wrap and laid it on the cold ground for her. He then stood back as she stood on it, already goose-pimpled and shivering as she covered her chest with her arms. Shiro then stood back for Tyler and Delfina. "Do your shielding work."

Tyler actually kept his distance, knowing that Bree would swell up to her helicopter form. He didn't know the means of the transformation, so either anyone near would be just pushed gently, knocked back violently, or fusion. He motioned Delfina to do the same. He knew it was always better to keep physical contact for this, but in this case, it wasn't worth the risk.
"I have a solid bridge between you and Bree." He said, having also done a bridge between him and Bree. He took a deep breath. "I'll signal Shiro when we're ready."

"Don't worry, there's nothing sudden here." Shiro stepped forward, and placed his hand on the woman's forehead - then caught her as she collapsed. "Best for her to be unconscious."
Delfina had visualized a cocoon in which to wrap the mindspark of Bree, wrapping it up in protective webby bands of silk in her own mind. She hoped that this linkup with Tyler would do the job.
Shiro laid the woman down on the wrap, crossing her arms over her frontal region and draping her undershirt over her upper thighs. She was a fine, athletic figure of a woman with superb muscle definition, a modest bust and very little body fat, the picture of one who had been active and hard-working all her life. He studied her face for a few moments, then brought out his brass tube and a sealed glass ampule of bright green fluid. He broke off the tip, recited an incantation and watched as it changed color to glowing white.
The other three users watched from twenty feet away, two of them not sure what would happen next. Haruna, however, had seen this scene repeated several times during her childhood, and the subjects hadn't always been willing or unconscious. In the latter cases, the conscious experience of the change had driven them mad.

Tyler helped patching up, and then saw the pattern of the memories gathered. All equal and evenly spread.
"Bloody hell Delfina, are you trying to drive her insane?" He exclaimed. "If doing that, she will remember everything, absolutely everything when she comes to."

Delfina gritted her teeth as she answered Tyler. "How am I going to balance this, then? I can't really see the mind-map like you can."
Shiro turned, slowly, "I think you would be safe in de-emphasizing every little childhood hurt and humiliation, to start with, also anything you get a flavor of embarrassment off of. She will still come out of it feeling disoriented for the first hour or so, like the first time." He cast a meaningful glance towards his daughter. "When you do all of it yourself, you will see EVERYTHING. The hardest part will be sorting out and triaging all the little things."
Haruna crossed her arms and scowled, but said nothing.
Shale grimaced as if offered something very unpleasant to swallow. This man had probably seen their every private moment...

"There's actually a better way." Tyler said, and put everything on near-nothing emphasize. "This is the easier way." He said. "First off, raise the memories going back about three months -" He said as doing so. "That is what is mostly on top of our mind, recent experiences. Then raise the learning experiences just a tad. We can't rely on them as being instinctual. Then we have first encounters with someone, so she knows who's who.
"Now, there are two things left, and that's up to you Delfina." Tyler said. "The stone Shiro had, was probably taking a flash image of everything, along with levels, but we lost that opportunity. What's left is what Bree recalls the most often, and family members."
