Freda was just beginning to wake up. She slowly opened her green eyes as the morning sun began to rise. She noticed Erika and Randy in her shadow.

"You know, Freda." Erika looked up at the ship woman, "You've got the most gorgeous eyes. Just look at the way the sun hits them. They're like emeralds!"
"Uh, Erika, you're chattering again." Randy nudged her. He sighed manfully as the other observations he'd made during "that year" came back to him. Of course, it was because it was during the morning! In the evening, the effect was minimal.
A yawn came from Marty's direction. "You guys are up early."
"Yeah, we are." Randy looked a little sheepish.

"Uh, thank you..." said Freda, starting to wake up a little bit more. She tried to remember if Stokes had told her how beautiful her eyes were yet.

Lt. Stokes definitely had work to do on the day of the races, but first, he was going to see Freda for a little while. He sounded off his horn as he neared the cove entrance and the startled gulls flew about him. The early morning was one of his favorite times of the day.
"There's your lover boy." Marty chortled.

Freda turned as the horn sounded and saw Stokes. Instantly, her face lit up. She sounded her horn and moved out to meet him.

Stokes came to a halt as he stared at Freda. She was as bright as an angel in the morning light! "Freda, you're better-looking every time I lay eyes on you. And your eyes are really glowing, like emeralds."
Kendall woke up, remembering that he was now in a tent. He nuzzled his mate, glad to be with her again.

Ebony woke up slowly, then she returned her mate's nuzzle. Her children were curled up in the corner under a nightcover.

"I'm glad to be with you." Kendall gave Ebony a peck on the cheek, and nibbled that area behind her sideview that he knew would get her totally relaxed and blissed out. "And the kids were really excited to go to the beach."
Stokes nuzzled Freda's cheek and gave her an affectionate nibble. "I've got an eight-hour pass for tonight, after the races. Naturally I thought of you."

Ebony was beginning to relax and the tension that she had been feeling lately began to melt away. "Ahhh..." she sighed contentedly. The Viper glanced over at her children, "And I bet they were so excited they tired themselves out on the flight over, huh..."

"And our Commander is getting hitched tomorrow, if you haven't already heard." Stokes added. "It's already spread through town."
"Uh-huh." Kendall said between nibbles. "So they ought to sleep soundly for another hour or so."

Outside, the humans were waking and starting their morning routines.
"News travels fast." Stokes nodded. "So you want to go out again afterwards?"

"OK then." Stokes grinned. "I'm getting off at 1800 (about 6PM). You're going to watch the races before then? I'll be there."
"That's OK." Kendall moved away and quietly zipped the wall that divided the large pop-up tent he'd brought into proper rooms, giving himself and Ebony sufficient privacy from the children. He continued his tender nibbling, working his way back and then starting on her other side.
