Malcolm kept a discreet distance for now, maintaining his poker face. The Cessna kid appeared even smaller on the ground than he did in the air. How the hell did Ari fall so low?

Anita managed not to flinch at the teen's flighty reaction, though she felt another surge of abashment. Still jumpy, despite appearances. My goodness.
"Relax, you aren't in any trouble," she insisted, in the same easy tone. "We are only here to talk, and, in my case, apologize."

"F-for what?" Todd asked, genuine confusion shining in his eyes. He just didn't understand...

"For my sibling's behavior," Anita explained, with sincere regret. "Malcolm here's told me about what happened before you landed. The two planes that assaulted you - the Mustang was my big brother. I wanted to say I'm sorry on his behalf."

"Oh..." Todd stammered, "Well, it was no big deal...really! I'm fine, and they didn't touch me. I'm just not used to...y'know...confrontations, that's all. No need to apologize." He forced a smile to show that all he had been saying was true.

Anita gave a small smile in return. No big deal, right. The kid's nerves had been rattled, and that qualified as damage enough.
"I'm sorry it happened nonetheless. You see, my brother and I have been out of contact for some time. I wasn't aware until today that he has been up to, and I'm quite ashamed to learn he's gone so far to be regularly terrorizing innocent travelers such as yourself. Is there anything I can do to compensate you for it?"

Todd, faced with such a choice, felt more heat rise into his face. "Uh...no, ma'am." he said, as politely as he could muster, "Nothin' you have to do. I'm alright."

"Very well. If you're certain." Figuring it would be best to drop the subject, she regarded the Cessna from a different conversational angle. "I don't believe I got your name, though."

"Oh, sorry 'bout that." He answered nervously, "I'm Todd... Todd Grant." He bowed his head politely, "And you are...? That is, if you don't mind my asking..."

"I'm Anita Wright," the Mustang replied with a more pleasant, reassuring smile. With an aileron she indicated the Spitfire sentinel. "And this, if you may have recognized him, is Malcolm Everidge. He was the one who got those guys off your tail."

"Oh, cool!" Todd said, waving one of his wings in a sign of 'thanks'.

"No problem." Malcolm smiled. "I was brought up not to tease little kittens or push baby ducks into water. So was Ari, so we're pretty keen on finding out just what's going on here."
It was then that Blanche entered the fuel stop grounds, figuring that if she wanted to get herself something to get through the afternoon, she'd best do it now. She paused a beat or two as she noted the black Spitfire, recalling the description that Miriam Jaeger had given her.

"I'll be looking into it all even more closely, rest assured," Anita remarked quietly, more to herself than anyone else.
The BEING-WATCHED feeling suddenly materialized, prompting a glance down the lane, where she saw the Aardvark woman. Recalling the earlier subject, she glanced toward Malcolm. "Is that your rendezvous-ee?"
