I saw it when it was in theaters for my b-day, and plan to buy it on DVD. It overall is really great, Johnny really has a voice behind him. Him and Burton did a really great job with it. Its only rated 'R' because of the throat cutting scenes.
I think one of my favorite scenes are the duets that Depp and Alan Rickman have together, both beautiful and gut wrenching.
And the story is based on a actual guy, though the story has been romanticized through the years, thats probably the best thing about it.

It is very good, I saw the stage performance when it came through town around here.

I saw the stage version broadcast on PBS years ago. I don't recall who played the role of Todd, but Angela Lansbury played his female partner-in-crime. If what you like is a traditional musical with a few scary parts, they did it very well.

My favorite part is the last scene where moron Turpin finds out who Sweeney Todd really is. I really liked Mrs. Lovett though.
