Daniel was laying down long on the records, constantly reading the information, occasionally asking Liska to look up conformation and performance records on some of those in the first to third generation. He had a photograph slideshow of those in the pedigree, looking on. It took him some time to recognize some of the conformation faults.
Daniel had never worked with intelligence gathering, but he knew the basic rules. 'Never to rush because that led to bad intel' was the basic rule of conduct. He got few other pedigrees up to look at the generations further away, and pedigrees of the parents' siblings.
"There is definitely a bigger picture here." Daniel said. He felt somewhat limited not be able to print out as much as he wanted, but he was glad that whoever that had gotten Martin with him had done so. The station he was working on was an exact replica of what Hollywood thought to be a hacker's work station. Five screens connected to one computer, and all of them filled up with some information.
"Lets say that we give each individual a ranking of 1 to 10. The average of those in Shayla's pedigree, and her siblings average about 4-5. Not so great, but you got to consider one thing. It is the low end of the spectrum that is the most numerous. If I were to guess, about 0,2% have the score of 9.5-10." Daniel said. "You don't breed a low end horse to a high end one if you can help it, but to have some numbers, low end often meets with low end, moreso in this society of sentients. The ones on the higher end of the spectrum usually socialize with the others at their level."
"But this is the fun part of this." He pointed at the pedigree. "Every single individual mated came from the top 25% according to the numbers from about that year, the biggest difference from number record to reality is 5 years. The least one is Shayla's grand-dam, with a score of 3.71."
"The Seabiscuit, I mean Sea Vixen was also continued to be introduced again to the bloodlines after the Harrier definition. All of them the prestige version of the Sea Vixen, none of those recessives."
Daniel went to the paperflow to pick up the original printout of Shayla's pedigree. It was scribbled all over by now, but there were several individuals with a 'U?' mark beside them, and most of them were on the lower end of the scale when it came to performance. "Since users don't really keep a database of themselves, it is more of a hit and miss." Daniel said, confirming that the 'U?' stood for 'suspected user'.
"Someone who did this tried to cover his tracks with the low ends, but they are from the higher percentage grouping. I doubt that anyone would have tried something like that in the horse industry, though as long as you had the money, you could get Storm Cat frozens for the unregistered BYB frankenmare."
"I can believe the pest part of it." Aron said. Aron thought briefly of why he would run away, the thought of having Phoenix jolt him did enter his mind, but he wasn't sure if she could control the resistance of her lightning. It wasn't the volts that killed you, but the amps.
