Melbourne's over and Jens Gli- I mean Kimi Raikkonen finally gets his chance to shine after being the Chick Hicks of the series for so long, this time with the Ferrari team. Raikkonen won the Australian GP, holding off defending champion Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, the latter two now with Mercedes.
Honda's running their greenie(-designed) cars, which is laughable not only in the irony of their performance but in that it still doesn't look nearly as good as Ferrari's new design.
Malaysia's in a couple of weeks...what's your take?

It's coming to my country in April...I hope I'll be able to attend like I did last year. I have a feeling that my ears are gonna be minced again. Seriously F1 engines are $#!$ing LOUD. I was camping a few weeks ago while they were doing pre-season testing at the track, and I could clearly hear them despite being almost 2 miles away. The fact that the track is built in the middle of the desert might have also helped.
And good to see I'm not the only one who did the "Raikkonen = Chick, Alonso = McQueen, Schumacher = The King" comparison. Even funnier is that Alonso and Schumi used to have the exact same colors as McQueen and The King, except reversed.
Anyways, it'll be interesting this year...most people have been mourning Schumacher losing his dominance and later retiring, but I think it's made the sport much more interesting. I'm rooting for Alonso, and not just cause he's driving a Merc.

Hammilton isn't "now" with mercedes. this is his first season.
and how was Honda's performance "ironic" to their livery?

...I meant that F1 cars don't even get a fraction of the mileage of a regular car, let alone a Honda Insight. Also, if the greenies get their way, speed will be the ultimate victim - as if regulations and restrictions (not counting safety) haven't already strangled the possibilities for creativity in F1.
Either way, the "Earth-friendly" colors of the Honda car were still pawned by the now-all-red Ferrari "barcode" look for the F2007, the latter actually feeling futuristic (and very dragon-like!) and ensuring that we won't miss the classic Marlboro ads. Also of note is that the Renault cars are no longer Mild Seven blue/yellow...
But yeah, I'm rooting for Raikkonen albeit more for Ferrari loyalty.

If you're afraid of anti-speed regulations, then you shouldn't worry. I read in a recent news article that they're going to allow turbos in a few years. Besides, it would be stupid if greenies ever attacked the actual race cars. Spectators driving to and from the track probably generate 20 times more emissions and consume 20 times more fuel than the race cars.
Although I can't say I really like Honda's new color, I think it's pretty impressive that they managed to design livery that's almost completely devoid of corporate symbols. Although one has to wonder how much money they lost doing that.
And Renault's new colors = belch. Their old livery was not only much easier on the eyes, but it actually shared colors with the flag of Alonso's home province(not that it matters now). In any case, I'm happy as long as the Mercs continue to be Silver Arrows.
EDIT: I recently found out that Lewis Hamilton got a podium on his first ever F1 race. Nice to see that after Schumi's dominance nearly killed the sport, a whole lot of skilled new blood is popping up to stop that from happening again.
As you can probably tell, I'm not a big Schumacher fan.

I'm not specifically afraid of anti-speed regulations, just that the greenies will put restrictions on the technologies that will ultimately decrease the overall speed of the cars, if they get their way.
As for Schumacher, if it weren't for those tragic engine failures during the final races of 2006, the final battle would've probably attracted so many new fans.

Oh, I read that blog and tried to comment on it. It's not just the irony not being the main purpose. Like I said, I'm thinking that if Honda raises enough awareness as it intends to with that sort of "advertising," and if these "aware" people have their way, F1 will soon start to get slower, as if there aren't enough restrictions placed on F1 cars anyway.
Remember when they could have V-4s going up against V-12s? Remember those six-wheeled Tyrells(?) that were so cartoony they were adorable? You don't see much creativity anymore.
F1 also used to be that kind of racing where the technology trickled down to the high-end-cars and then down to the slower, lower-class models. I fear that the situation might be reversed with all the lower-end models receiving the new environmental technology. The diesels in the Le Mans Audis at least have comparable performance to their old petrol models, but a Hybrid F1 car that doesn't set new lap records completely defeats the purpose of racing.

My school just announced that race day is going to be a holiday(believe it or not, Sunday is considered a weekday here in Bahrain...). My chances of going have been exponentially raised. Stay tuned.
EDIT: And I just noticed that the Malaysian Grand Prix is over...with Alonso and Hamilton in the first 2 places. Starbutt Power!

Aww dang...I was hoping that Alonso would get the chance to win in his homeland.
But still...this season is turning out to be extremely interesting. Everyone was expecting it to be a 1 on 1 between Alonso and Raikkonen, but looks like their "second fiddles" have stepped up as well.
BTW, Hamilton is #1 in the overall standings right now...if he wins the Driver's Championship this year, he'll be (with the exception of the first season, where everyone was new) the first ever F1 driver to win in his rookie season. Hmm...now where have we heard that story before. ;D

Alonso takes the checkered flag with Glimilton following close behind and Kamassa in a distant 3rd. 0: Impressive and well-deserved performance by Kubica in 5th. The two Starbutts are now tied for the lead.
Next stop: Canadia!

Despite my earlier support for Alonso, I was sort of wishing that Hamilton would net a win here...must be getting frustrating to have this string of podium finishes without a single win. Oh well, there's always next time.
By the way, is it just me or did Kimi sort of fall off the radar after that impressive first race?

Well, today's the day of the Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton and Alonso have qualified for first and second respectively. We'll see how the race goes in a few hours.
EDIT: And Hamilton scores his first Grand Prix win! Is anybody going to stop this madman?! I sure hope not.
In other news, Kubica is involved in one of the hardest F1 crashes in recent years but survives, disappointing performances from Alonso and Massa(with the latter being disqualified), half-decent performance from Kimi, relative unknowns Wurz and Heidfeld share the podium with Hamilton.
Well, things certainly got interesting this race. Only 5 days until we see how things go...In America.</Bandit Keith>
