<<<I'm cool with a time jump>>>
Ondine had heard from Tex that he was bringing in some help to deal with the "Bad luck" that had been dogging the PC circuit races, but she didn't really know what he'd had in mind. That was the point of this late-night conference with Tex, some racing association execs, and a personage that the Caddy had hinted at, but otherwise had left undescribed. She reviewed her materials and database, being ready to call up anything her boss might need, and acknowledged him with a smile and a nod as he entered.
"I won't keep us up too long, Ondine." Tex stifled a yawn. "Just long enough to get us introduced here."
A few minutes after the hour, the "extra person" arrived. He was an unprepossessing, slightly rusty white '65 Valiant wagon with light brown eyes and an impassive expression. As he took his place beside one of the track stewards, he casually introduced himself as "Doug". "This is Doug Bergman." Tex elaborated. "He's ... um, what you'd call a "demon hunter. The Rust-Eze brothers put me in touch with him, seein' as he's their cousin."
The local track officials had this WHAT-NOW look on their faces, and that wasn't lost on Tex. "Just ask the racers. Screwy things have been goin' on since the season began, an' accidents and coincidence just don't cover it. About time we settled this before a real blowup happens. Doug?"
"Thank you, Mr. Tex." Doug rose on his shocks. "Please bear with me, ladies and gentleman, this might sound like something straight outta the Twilight Zone, but it ain't no joke.."
