Phoenix backed up letting Darcy into the tent. "Yeah I guess it does."

"Thanks," the 'Bird girl moved into the tent. "Hey, Ebony." Darcy called out in muted tones.

It was true that Ebony needed more peace and quiet now that she had advanced more into her term, except whenever she played on her CDs. But a visit or two from her friends always helped her to deal with her current condition.
She blinked the sleep out of her eyes and smiled as Darcy came inside the tent, "Hey, Darcy... How've you been...?"

"Ok, thanks." Darcy answered. "Getting a little better with my driving, or at least Doc and Mr. Weathers tell me so."

"I'm pretty sure they're both right..." replied Ebony. She gave a deep sigh again, as if she was having shortness of breath. The twins are heavier now, she thought. "After the twins are born, I may need a lot of time to get back into shape... build up my strength again..."

Darcy smiled sympathetically. "Maybe I can help out with that, once they're born." She paused for a moment to withdraw her large watercolour block. "Been working on this all week." She held before Ebony a piece of work that was three-quarters finished, of Lightning, Doc and Strip at the Butte, with a few other locals watching in the background. "Sally asked for this."

Elsewhere
"Nat, I pay you as a courtesy for taking care of the mutt. That doesn't mean you can do to me as you - " Shawn stopped short as a trickle of soapy water ran into his eyes. He hissed sharply at the sting it generated.
Boo, already washed and dried and perched on a nearby rock, seemed to take a certain pleasure in watching his owner suffer at the wheels of the GT girl. That morning she had, by some means, procured some water, soap, and wash rags. She originally intended only to give Boo a bath; after trudging through mud and accumulating layers of sand over the last few days, he needed it.
Shawn had the misfortune to make a snooty comment about why bother to give the 'dog a bath. And with the excess soap and water left over, Natalie had seen the opportune moment to offer him a courtesy of her own.
"Quit being a baby," she admonished, grinning slyly. "It's just for the overall bits. I won't prod you anywhere sensitive. And if you must insist on bearing all those scars, you could at least keep a decent layer of cleanliness about you."
The aero hybrid blinked angrily as the soap was wiped away, growling quietly in protest. This was unusual, to be sure. But she had been insistent. He wasn't about to be chased around town over something as trivial as this.
He was not going to be part of a sight.

<<< XD Love the mental picture of Shawn getting washed up!>>>
"Niiiice." Ebony raised her eyeshades at the work. "You got them perfectly, even the small figures. Sally should like it."
"Thanks," Darcy said, "It's going to be surprise for Doc. His birthday's coming up next month. He doesn't talk about it, but a certain niece of his tattled on him." she smiled mischievously.
"Yeah, that's Elizabeth." Ebony smiled a little, before wincing as the twins started kicking about inside her. "Oh, cut it out, both of you."

((He deserves a little 'humiliation', being such an unsocial butterfly for so long.))
Shawn willed himself to hold still, though he remained tense as a coiled spring. After almost 15 minutes of this regime, he was getting impatient.
Natalie noticed this. "You really need to learn how to relax, man," she observed, wiping a streak of suds from the hybrid's side. "Since when has everything become about temporary jobs and not your personal hygiene?"
"Since when do you have so many questions?" Shawn shot back. "As politely as I can say, that's none of your business."
"Well, you wouldn't've stuck around for so long if you hadn't landed one around here, I'm sure," the GT girl replied, flicking her rag disdainfully at him. The hybrid was careful to shut his eyes against the drops that flew into his windshield. "While you're waiting, why not indulge yourself in the form of some nice new tires and a paintjob?"
"If they're just going to get ruined the next job down the line, why should I bother?"

As soon as the twins stopped their little impromtu game of tireball, Ebony sighed. "I'm gonna have to put up with them for three more months... Hopefully, I won't get snappy at anybody again..."
Ebony managed to relax on her pad again. "You know, I've been thinking of taking up a journal..." she said, "Writing down my thoughts and any memories that I still have... Maybe I won't be so confused about things... But I don't think I'm confident enough to write on paper yet..."

Darcy hmm'd at this. "Try some school notebooks. It's never too soon to start writing things down once you've got it."

"School notebooks...? I don't know if I have any around, except for the one that I use for that literacy course..." said Ebony.

Darcy plucked one of her spares out of her side compartment. "Here's an extra one you can use."

Ebony smiled, "Thanks, Darcy... I appreciate it..." She accepted the notebook gratefully. Now what can she remember that she could write down?
(((((OOC: And I'm actually writing a story that's in the form of journal entries whose author is Ebony.)))))

It had taken some convincing to get Boo to stay stationary on his rock. At first he had enjoyed it, sunning himself while watching the aero hybrid and the GT girl trade snappy remarks at each other. And while it felt good to have a clean hide for a change, the foxdog would have no qualms about getting dirty again if it meant finding something entertaining to do.
Once he was sure their attention was elsewhere, Boo made a quiet exit, slipping down from his perch and sneaking back into town. He wouldn't be gone long. A few minutes, at most.
He paused in the vicinity of the intersection, sniffing the breeze and simultaneously looking toward the diner for any familiar faces.
