"I don't have anything against this plan of yours..." replied Strike, "I'm in full agreement with it... but if this plan fails, you know full well what I'm going to do to you if I catch you..."

"You won't regret the investment, Strike. I promise." Archer smirked triumphantly. Though the thought of punishment unnerved him, he wasn't going to focus on that.
Now to give Krystal and Laverne a call.
*
A few hours had passed since the attack. It was now late afternoon. Though they had received some odd looks, Carlos' Diner & Boarding had taken them in once Fabrizio proved beyond a doubt that he was a well-financed traveller. At least, for now.
He had tried to get some rest, but the aching in his frame just wouldn't permit sleep. Eventually, he had given up on it and asked the facility's owner directions to the nearest pharmacy. After taking one or two wrong turns, the Vector had found his way there.
A standard dose of Gasprin had lessened the pain, leaving him feeling more exhausted than before. Still, Fabrizio wearily rolled up along the row of rooms that extended just off of the main gas station. It took a moment to recall which one it was, and moved to the room he had booked.
He tapped one of his rims against the closed garage door. "Rosa? You still in there?"

Strike nodded, "Good..." He sank back down on his frame, having been standing for more than his injuries allowed him. The Talon needed some rest and time to recover.

Rosa wasn't getting much sleep either, although it was entirely for a different reason than aches and pains from the fight. She hadn't intended to use her spikes in that manner at all and had been thoroughly distressed after she had seen what she had done to those tuners that had attacked her and Fabrizio.
She had held her emotions in check until after they rented the rooms and she had been inside mulling over the day's events. What could've happened if she had reacted differently? Could she have persuaded the tuner gang leader that she and Fabrizio meant no harm? And there were various other questions in her mind while she rested in her room.
She sat up when she heard the knock on the garage door and heard Fabrizio's voice, "Yeah, I'm still here. You can come in."

Fabrizio prodded the grounded release button. The door rolled up with a clank.
"I got the Gasprin," he explained, crossing the threshold. Though the rooms were great for an individual, he couldn't easily park his whole frame inside. "I took a few wrong turns, but eventually found my way." He paused, the smile dissolving slightly as he noticed Rosa's subdued manner. "Is... everything all right?"

Rosa sat up, smiling wearily, but she seemed to have a troubled expression on her front.
"I'm alright, I guess," answered Rosa, "I just can't help thinking about what happened today. And I wasn't prepared for an encounter with the Road Renegades."
(((((OOC: And I'm pretty sure that Fabrizio's going to ask her who the Road Renegades are, since she knows a lot about them.)))))

Fabrizio tilted his hood to the side, concerned and curious at once. Road Renegades? That sounded like a title, akin to something like Dilenquent Road Hazards. Insofar as assuming things went, he guessed Rosa knew of their attackers prior to today's drama.
"I don't blame you for dwelling on it," he replied, "But before we go any further, the Road Renegades. Who are they exactly?"

"The Road Renegades are a notorious group of tuners whose territory is the part of Route 66 that goes through New Mexico. And it is they that the DRH has the most spats with over territorial rights and so forth. Their leader is called StrikeZone, the dark green Eagle Talon that we've seen today and whom I was talking to. He and Boost have had many duels with each other," explained Rosa, "and he knows of me quite well because I'm always present at these duels with Boost and Ebony. Strike wants total control of both his and DRH territories. He'll certainly want revenge on me after what I did to him and his companions."

Fabrizio put the pieces together, feeling a growing sense of dread as the information coalesed. The way it came into focus was leaving him with one conclusion: they had not seen the last of the Renegades. This could become a case of wanted, dead or alive.
"You cut him up pretty good, Rosa," he mused, "I don't think he'd have the ability to come after you for himself. I don't know about the rest of his buddies, but... do you know if the Renegades have any long-distance members, like Tempest was to the DRH? Would he contact them in light of what's happened?"

Rosa nodded, "Yes, he would've called someone he knows well. Strike has a cousin at the other end of Route 66 at the edge of New Mexico named Krystal. She's very aggressive and I don't really want to meet up with her, even if I do have these spikes."

Fabrizio thought this over to himself, his expression pensive and slowly changing over to worry.
"Maybe we should just ditch the trip and head back," he suggested, his gaze downcast. By this point, whenever someone with as much street experience as Rosa had reason to become cautious, he took it seriously. "Would that satisfy them, or are the Renegades known for extracting revenge in every case that calls for it?"

"If we did that, they'd definately track us down," replied Rosa, "So returning to Radiator Springs is not a good idea right now and I don't want to put Ebony and the rest of the town in danger. Besides, we can't ditch our trip. The Renegades will follow us, but maybe there's some way to make them lose track of us."

Fabrizio pursed his lips, considering this point. He did not want to lead danger back to Radiator Springs. Never. And while he didn't have the fondest memories of it, he did not want to lead the same threat to Watersford, either. What to do?
"I'm hoping there is, too," he said grimly, "But I'm damned if I know what it is." He looked up after another moment of contemplation. "Would a change in our direction work? What if we took a less conspicuous, back-road route?"

"I think so," answered Rosa, "They may be watching only Route 66 and probably think that we're going to pass through there. I wouldn't mind a change of scenery though."

"Then we take the expressway," Fabrizio said, nodding as this made perfect sense. If these Renegades were so focused on the obvious, they would overlook all other possibilities. There had to be a reason they only controlled so much territory. Maybe stupidity was to blame.
"We should get some sleep, then. Perhaps if we leave quicker than they expect we will up our chances of total evasion." The Vector paused again, remembering his companion's initial mood. "And don't worry too much about what you did to see them off, Rosa. It was self-defense, pure and simple. You gave them fair warning, and it is their own fault they did not heed it."

"I only wish that I didn't get them angry with me," replied Rosa, "but I don't want to miss the chance to go to Waterford. Sooner or later, I might have to face them and defend myself again. What if we left before dawn? We can escape undetected and already be on our way before they figure out that we're gone."
